Driver Studio

Enrich your Pages with powerful Markdown formatting options.

Overview

Whether you are manually authoring text in a Page or allowing Driver to generate content for you, all formatting is applied through Markdown. Markdown is a lightweight markup language used in many text editing environments. The general approach to this system is that you include special symbols and characters along with your text that conforms to Markdown syntax. When the system recognizes this syntax, it applies the specified formatting.

In Driver, Markdown formatting is applied in-line. This means that when you enter valid Markdown syntax along with your text, Drive will automatically render the formatting in the current document. This is in contrast to other systems that perform the rendering as a post-processing step that converts the entire document into a new document with the formatting applied.

There are also options for using menu items to apply formatting without needing to type out the Markdown syntax. The details of both approaches are shown below.

Apply Formatting with Markdown

Apply formatting by using the following Markdown syntax typed directly in a page.

Apply Formatting with Keyboard Shortcuts

  1. Pre-select a formatting option using one of the keyboard shortcuts listed below.

  2. Type the desired content, and the formatting will be applied.

The text formatting options are toggled on/off with the keyboard shortcuts. They can also be combined, e.g applying the shortcuts for Bold and Italic will result in all subsequent text formatted with both options until they are toggled off.

Apply Formatting with the Command Menu

  1. Type the / key at the start of any blank line in a page.

  2. Choose the formatting option from the resulting menu.

The formatting options listed in the Command Menu are functionally equivalent to the keyboard options above.

Remove Formatting

  1. Hover over the block of text from which you want to remove formatting.

  2. Click on the grouping of dots to the left of the block.

  3. Select Clear formatting.
